Welcome to Middle School AI Literacy! In Grades 6 to 8, we look under the hood. How you phrase a prompt changes what an AI outputs—and because AI learns from internet text, it can repeat stereotypes or leave out important viewpoints.
Learning Goal: Analyze how prompt phrasing shapes AI output, test algorithms unplugged, and spot one-sided perspectives or stereotypes.
Bias & Prompt Comparison Lab: Compare two differently worded prompts on a middle-school topic. Highlight where the AI makes unsupported assumptions or omits key perspectives.
Create a grade-7 activity comparing two differently worded prompts on [non-sensitive topic]. Include three questions guiding students to spot missing viewpoints, stereotypes, and unsupported claims.
Create a 35-minute algorithm design activity without devices for middle schoolers.
Plan a 35-minute grade-7 unplugged algorithms lab using paper and pencils: hook, team challenge, test cases, debugging, and exit ticket. Include a sample solution.
Human Check: Run the test cases and verify timing.
Teach threat recognition and digital privacy with fictional middle-school examples.
Create six fictional middle-school cybersecurity scenario cards about phishing, strong authentication, and privacy. For each give a safe decision and reasoning. Avoid operational attack steps.
Human Check: Review for current, accurate safety guidance and age suitability.
